Wild Orchids<\/h3>\n

Montefalcone also surprises with its floristic<\/strong> richness. Indeed, the cool, limestone slopes are home to wild orchids, including Orchis mascula, Ophrys apifera (the bee orchid) and Anacamptis morio, which bloom from late April through early summer, coloring glades and woodland paths with shades of lilac, pink and purple. Fossils<\/h3>\n

Montefalcone Appennino is not only a natural panoramic balcony over Valdaso and the Sibillini Mountains, but also a unique place where Earth’s history and botanical beauty<\/strong> meet. Its famous sandstone cliff, dating back to the Miocene era (about 20 million years ago), contains numerous marine fossils\u2014shells, mollusks, corals, and small organisms\u2014that testify to the ancient presence of the Adriatic Sea, when these hills were submerged by tropical waters. In some areas, fossiliferous layers remain visible<\/strong>, turning the site into a true open-air geological classroom.<\/strong><\/p>\n
